MOSAICS

Duration 60 minutes

Premiered in Malaga in April 2012

I am sure that the first mosaics I remember were those tiles in Andalusian patios that transported us to the Arab palaces, the Alcázar of Riqueni or the Alhambra of Morente.

They always gave me the impression of a complete, continuous and precise work made up of only minimal coloured pieces joined together. Essential tiles that come together in geometric patterns to praise divinity, to remind us that no piece is more important than the others and to create an infinite and harmonious whole. This union of art and mathematics fascinates me and when I look at it I often think of music.

Don't notes, silences and nuances form colours? Isn't dance pure geometry? Doesn't movement express something beyond what we can say in words?

With Mosaicos I offer you a continuous show, where steps and gestures do not overlap, but neither do they leave a gap between them because not even silence is devoid of intention. The meticulous elaboration of the details aims to make us forget, for brief moments, the vision of the whole. But we clearly perceive malagueñas, tangos or a taranta by the maestro Pepe Marchena. The instruments communicate, finding unexpected patterns along the way that sometimes lead from chaos to harmony and from rhythmic balance to destructuring, to take us away from the predictable.

Little by little I am looking for a language with my body, with my ideas and with my emotions to present to you my own Mosaic.
