MARTINIANS I GAVE MY BODY – GREEK FESTIVAL

July 10, 2025 @ 7:30 PM - 21:00

Leonor Leal, Antonio Moreno and Juan M. Jiménez.

Five of the most renowned and evocative artists on the current flamenco scene invoke the figure of the "duende," the mystery and unrepeatable power that Federico García Lorca defined as the very soul of creation.

In the first session of I gave my body Martinicos On Thursday the 10th, we'll see contemporary dancer and creator Leonor Leal explore flamenco from a visceral perspective. Accompanied by the all-around percussionist Antonio Moreno and saxophonist Juan M. Jiménez, she brings to the stage a zapateado that originates from the lower back, encompasses the space with the back, and captures movement while the music tugs at the stomach. Each beat evokes the darkest corners of the body, traversing muscles and bones in search of the source of emotion.

This is a scenic and musical journey through light and shadow, life and death, body and voice. It takes the form of two shows, independent yet connected, that can be seen on July 10 and 11. Both engage with the power and instinct of tradition in search of this much-desired and ever-elusive duende, colloquially known here as Martinico.

If anything defines flamenco, it is its ability to move, to ignite the air, and to transform pain into beauty. I gave my body Martinicos It offers us two complementary visions of an art that, rooted in tradition, continues to reinvent itself with a passion that never tires of being reborn.

The proposal arises within the framework of the exhibition “In the moved air… Image, emotion, utopia”, curated by Georges Didi-Huberman at the CCCB, which takes as its starting point the Romance of the Moon, Moon, the first poem of the Gypsy Ballads from Lorca.

A CCCB production in collaboration with El Dorado – Barcelona Flamenco Society.
