“I dance because you exist! ”
This is how the show begins “We came to Naquerar” which was premiered by the great dancer and choreographer Mario Maya in 1976.
Or so I thought, that it started like this…
How do I research, rewrite or rework a show I've never seen? How do I create from the material I have (which is incomplete and confusing)? How do I filter it through my own body as a dancer to expose it? Or... better yet, through my own life itself.
Could you speak it?
“We came to Naquerar” It means “we want to talk” in Caló, so… could I have a voice of my own besides my feet, my hips or my arms? Could I tell, write, read and show the material that runs through this show and that moves me?
What role do we give to the past in creating in the present?
How can we make this a conscious tool that helps us reflect over time?
Questions, creation, materials that cross paths, threads that pull us to other places, dance, music, texts… a whole world full of connections that make us travel through the senses.
